Environmental management as part of sustainability management at PRS
In addition to the company’s contribution to climate protection through #upcycling instead of disposal, the focus is also on operational sustainability and environmental protection measures at the Freilassing, Opladen/Leverkusen and Munich sites. One important step was the modernization of the wheelset and bogie hall in Freilassing. The entire electricity consumption of this competence center is covered by green electricity, and the proportion of regenerative heat generation is around 80%. Modified production processes and energy-efficient equipment in the assembly hall lead to considerable electricity savings. Investments, such as the procurement of a glass bead blasting system for cleaning components, reduce dust and noise emissions. Another important measure is the sophisticated warehousing in Freilassing, where an average of 800 wheel disks and 100 axle shafts as well as wear parts, gears and housings are kept in stock. This enables quick reactions to short-term orders and improves production and transportation processes. Larger orders also increase efficiency while reducing resource consumption and environmental impact. ROBEL is currently building a new logistics center, which will go into operation at the end of 2024, to further develop the warehouse processes in a resource-saving manner. Automated logistics will streamline processes, while photovoltaic systems and green spaces on the roof of the building will reduce the carbon footprint to a minimum. The Freilassing site is not the only one to become a pioneer in sustainable industrial production. The other PRS sites in Opladen/Leverkusen and Munich are also continuously implementing measures to improve their eco-balance. For example, the Opladen/Leverkusen plant has been using geothermal heat pumps since 2010. PRS is aware of its social responsibility and is therefore driving forward sustainability issues with a clear view to the future. What is your company doing for sustainability and the environment?
