BEAVER back on the Swiss track after retrofit

Plasser Robel Services hands over tamping machine to Scheuchzer SA

After a project duration of 16 months, including seven months of retrofitting in Freilassing, the Swiss track-laying company Scheuchzer AG in Bussigny near Lausanne takes delivery of a remanufactured 08-16/90 “BEAVER II” tamping machine, which shows neither operational damage nor the year of manufacture 1989.

The order for a retrofit was placed with Plasser Robel Services (PRS) at the Freilassing site in November 2021. The necessary maintenance work on the main frame of the machine and on the drawbar of the trailer required the dismantling of the cab, control panels, plows and sweeping equipment for refurbishment and reuse.

Scheuchzer also opted for a variety of new components, including a new main frame, modern tamping units and a Caterpillar engine, to upgrade the machine to meet current labor, environmental and safety standards. The cabs were equipped with new air-conditioning systems, a new leveling and straightening system and braking system for the entire machine were installed.

Bernhard Aebi, responsible for the track tamping machine at Scheuchzer AG, is looking forward to the renewed commissioning of the proven tamping machine: “We are very satisfied with the final result. The machine stands there like new, offers optimum working safety, much more comfort and is equipped for at least 15 more years of use on the track.”
